Kolkata (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that only the Bharatiya Janata Party can put an end to the “politics of violence” in West Bengal, asserting that the party has already delivered stability and governance in other eastern states.
Addressing a public rally in Malda district, Modi cited the BJP’s governance record in Odisha, Tripura, Assam, and Bihar to argue that West Bengal is next in line for change. He said a BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government had recently returned to power in Bihar and claimed that similar “good governance” was needed in West Bengal.
Referring to his post-election remarks in Bihar, the Prime Minister said development would now reach West Bengal as well. He added that just as the BJP had ended political violence in other eastern states, it would do the same in the state.
Launching a strong attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress, Modi alleged large-scale corruption and accused the state government of blocking the implementation of several centrally sponsored welfare schemes. He claimed that funds released by the Union government were being misused and that people of West Bengal were being denied benefits under key programmes, including the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns over women’s safety in the state, alleging that the situation had deteriorated significantly under the Trinamool Congress regime.
Calling on voters to bring about change, Modi said the people of West Bengal have the power to end corruption, violence, and oppression through their votes. “It is only the people who can change the situation for the better,” he said.
Highlighting the Centre’s focus on infrastructure and development in the state, the Prime Minister pointed to the inauguration of the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express from Malda earlier in the day, describing it as evidence of the Union government’s commitment to West Bengal’s growth.
