PATH commemorates Safdar Hashmi on Nukkad Natak Divas in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, April 12: People’s Association for Theatre (PATH), on Friday, April 12, commemorated Rashtriya Nukkad Natak Divas (National Street Play Day) in tribute to the propagator of this performing format, Safdar Hashmi, with the presentation of ‘Loktantra’ with an eye on guiding the electorate to exercise its franchise during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The play which was staged in front of the Press Club of Jamshedpur office at Sakchi, aimed to raise awareness among Jamshedpur’s voters.

The performance featured artistes Swaroop Khurshid Alam, Suman Saurabh Kumar, Mani Pradhan, Rupesh Prasad, Rupesh Rai, Shyam Dev, Deepak Kumar, Vikas Karmakar, Ashutosh Kumar, Somen Pramanik, Shailendra Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Amitesh Kumar Singh, Gautam Dhibar, Vikas Kumar, Chhavi Das, Navya Shankar, Sushma Pramanik, Varsha Kumari, and Natasha Poddar The play was directed by master craftsman Mohammad Nizam IPTA’s Arpita Srivastava was present on the occasion.

Rashtriya Nukkad Natak Divas (National Street Play Day) is celebrated annually on April 12 in honor of Safdar Hashmi, a pioneer in using street theater for social awareness, who was martyred while performing in 1989.
