Jamshedpur
The brutal killing of Loco Pilot Gyanendu Kumar Gautam has rattled the Steel City. He was shot dead at point-blank range outside the crew lobby near Tatanagar Railway Station late Sunday night.
Murder points to premeditated contract killing
Initial investigations by the police indicate that the killing was not random but a well-planned contract execution. The assailants reportedly shot the victim at close range, targeting his temple—a method commonly associated with professional shooters.
Investigators believe the precision and timing of the attack suggest the involvement of a trained criminal gang hired specifically to eliminate the victim.
Land dispute and business rivalry under scanner
Police sources have revealed that the deceased was actively involved in real estate dealings in addition to his railway duties. He had recently acquired around 20 kathas of land in the Kulupatanga area of Adityapur, where he was undertaking a major plotting project.
The probe has uncovered a simmering dispute between the victim and local land mafias over control of the property. Authorities suspect that the murder may be linked to this ongoing conflict, with powerful land syndicates emerging as prime suspects.
Multi-pronged police investigation underway
Senior officers, including City SP Lalit Meena, have formed multiple teams to crack the case. The investigation is progressing on several fronts:
- Call detail records (CDR) are being analysed to trace recent communications and possible threats
- Financial transactions related to land deals are under scrutiny
- CCTV footage from Bagbera and station areas is being examined frame by frame
- Several suspects, including individuals linked to land networks, have been detained for questioning
Police officials have stated that crucial leads have emerged and arrests are expected soon.
Family devastated, victim recently transferred
The deceased had been posted to Tatanagar only three months ago after a transfer from Danguwaposi. A native of Bihar, he was residing with his family in Adityapur.
His sudden death has left the family shattered. Relatives rushed to Jamshedpur upon receiving the news, while his wife and two young sons remain in deep shock.
Railway staff protest, security under question
The murder has sparked outrage among railway employees, who have questioned the effectiveness of security arrangements at sensitive locations like the crew lobby.
Staff members have alleged lapses on the part of both the Railway Protection Force and local police, stating that criminals were able to enter, execute the killing, and flee without resistance.
The incident has prompted urgent calls for enhanced surveillance and stricter security measures across railway premises.
Crackdown intensifies on land mafia
Following the incident, police have intensified operations against suspected land mafia networks in the Adityapur and Jamshedpur regions. Authorities have assured that those behind the conspiracy will be identified and brought to justice at the earliest.
As investigations deepen, the case is rapidly unfolding into a high-profile probe linking crime, real estate, and organised syndicates—sending shockwaves across the city.
