Passenger dies on railway track, trains delay due to public agitation

Jamshedpur, June 22: Movement of several goods and passenger trains, like the Howrah-Titlagarh Ispat Superfast Express, which passes through the Tatanagar railway station, was hit on Friday due to a public agitation over death of a passenger on a railway track at Macheda, which falls under Kharagpur division of South Eastern Railway.

According to information, the Titlagarh-bound Ispat Express which was scheduled to reach Tatanagar at 10.42 am came at 2.45 pm, after a delay of four hours. The Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express was delayed by over three hours. The Mumbai-bound train was supposed to arrive at Tatanagar at 11.30 am whereas it came here at around 2.40 pm as it was stranded up for the agitation.

The Steel Superfast Express was delayed by about two-and-half hours when it reached Howrah today. The train left Tatanagar on its right time at 6.15 am but was stranded in Kharagpur division because of the agitation . The Howrah-bound ispat was also delayed by about half-an-hour when it reached Tatanagar this afternoon. The train was supposed to come at 2.25 pm but came around 3 pm.

The Howrah-BarbilJanshatabdi Express was also delayed by about 30 minutes. The schedule arrival of the train at Tatanagar is 9.45 am but today the train reached Tatanagar railway station at around 10.15 am.

A railway official informed that the local people of Macheda were demanding employment for a family member of a man who was runover by a train at Macheda this morning. The agitating people squatted on the tracks disrupting movement of trains.

Train services were restored after withdrawal of the agitation. Railway sources said several passenger and goods train were stranded in the Kharagpur division because of the agitation.

The Tatanagar station assumes importance in view because it is located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
