Jamshedpur: In the past year, over 500 divorce cases have been filed in Jamshedpur, with many involving disputes among working couples. A significant number of cases stem from the challenges of balancing work and family life, such as instances where wives are employed, leading husbands to leave their jobs to care for children, triggering conflicts.

Rajendra Prasad, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), stated, “Our aim is to prevent family breakdowns. Through counselling and mediation, we manage to resolve the majority of these cases successfully.”

Approximately 1,000 divorce applications are filed annually, and in more than half of these cases, the DLSA and Family Court successfully intervene to save relationships. Both parties are brought together for discussions to find common ground.

In addition to traditional reasons for divorce, such as disputes and mental health issues, newer factors like social media pressures and disagreements over creating content, such as making reels, have emerged as contributing causes. These modern issues reflect the evolving dynamics within marriages.

The DLSA and Family Court continue to focus on mediation and reconciliation efforts, striving to reduce the rising divorce rate in the city.
