NDRF team fishes out drowned Jamshedpur youth from Subarnarekha River

Jamshedpur, Oct 23: The bodies of Nitin Kumar Singh and Ashish Kumar, who were drowned in the Subarnarekha river near Babudih Kanhu Bhatta of Sidgora police station area, were recovered by the NDRF team on Saturday. The body of Ashish, who drowned in the river while taking a bath on Friday near Babudih Ghat, has been recovered from Lupungdih, Birsanagar, two km from the incident site, near Moharda Water Supply Scheme. Police have removed the body from the river and sent it for post-mortem. The NDRF team had gathered in two boats on Saturday morning in search of both.

A team of NDRF, Ranchi was pressed in to recover trace bodies of two youths who were drowned while taking a bath at the Babudih Ghat on the banks of river Subarnarekha under Sidhgora police station on Friday afternoon. Three of them were taking baths. In the mishap, while one other was rescued, the other two remained beyond traceable.

 On Sunday a team from NDRF was engaged and after hours of struggle the bodies of 17- year old Nitin Kumar and Ashish Kumar were recovered. They were students of class X at a Kashidih-based school.

 People present at the spot tried to save them soon after the incident but couldn’t, as they got carried away by strong water currents. Sources said that local people immediately informed the police who then rushed to the spot and started a search operation with the help of divers. The drowned children could not be traced till the time this story was written.

 The locals informed the family about the son’s drowning into the river. It is known that due to heavy rains due to cyclones, the water level of the rivers has increased significantly. There is also a strong flow in the river. The people of the river-side settlements gather for fishing and bathing along the river, bypassing the danger. However, after the rain stopped, the water level in the rivers has receded but the flow is very high.
