Special forces from India and Indonesia began the final 48-hour validation exercise of GARUDA SHAKTI 2026 in East Java on Tuesday.
The Indian Army and the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) are conducting this joint military drill in the harsh jungle terrain of East Java.
This intense field exercise evaluates the combat skills, tactical coordination, decision-making, and endurance of both elite forces under extreme pressure.
Troops are applying skills honed over the past week, including marksmanship, mountaineering, heliborne operations, patrolling, and combat tracking.
The Indian Embassy in Jakarta highlighted that the realistic scenarios aim to prepare both nations to execute complex joint operations together.
Earlier in Banyuwangi, the troops executed simulated combat tracking drills to locate and pursue targets through specialized ground reading techniques.
The exercise also integrated operational drone training to enhance surveillance, reconnaissance, and situational awareness across dense jungle environments.
By combining traditional fieldcraft with modern drone technology, the forces ensured comprehensive threat detection and tracking coverage.
Personnel from the Indian Army’s Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) are training alongside members of the Indonesian Special Forces during the event.
The bilateral joint exercise officially commenced on October 27 in Banyuwangi to strengthen defense cooperation and joint jungle warfare capabilities.
Both military contingents will continue their intensive tactical training in the region until the exercise concludes on November 6.
