NCRB report exposes disturbing reality of human trafficking in Jharkhand: 43 boys and 125 girls rescued

Ranchi: In addition to the persisting challenges posed by Naxal activities, the state of Jharkhand is grappling with a significant issue of human trafficking, as revealed by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report. The report discloses that in the year 2022, a total of 43 boys and 125 girls fell victim to trafficking in Jharkhand, with a staggering 129 of them being minors. This alarming figure emphasizes the vulnerability of children in the state.

Out of the total victims, 90 cases were reported concerning forced labor, while two cases involved sexual exploitation and prostitution. Additionally, 57 cases were related to domestic slavery, one case involved forced marriage, and two cases were categorized under other reasons for trafficking.

The NCRB report highlights the critical role played by Anti Human Trafficking Units (AHT Units) across various districts in addressing this issue. Jharkhand, with one AHT Unit in each of its 24 districts, saw a total of 100 cases registered by these units. According to the report, proactive efforts by law enforcement have resulted in the rescue of 33 boys and 80 girls below the age of 18, as well as 10 boys and 29 girls aged 18 years and above. In total, 43 boys and 109 girls have been successfully rescued from the clutches of human traffickers.
