Strait of Hormuz escalation: Iran claims mine strikes stop 2 violating oil tankers

Two oil tankers suffered major explosions after striking naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.
The navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the incident in a statement.
Iranian naval forces stopped both ships, including a supertanker, after the blasts occurred within recent hours.
The IRGC statement noted that the supertanker suffered a massive explosion and continues to burn.
Iranian officials claimed both vessels transited an unauthorized route and turned off navigation systems.
Tehran restricted passage through the key waterway on February 28 following joint Israeli-American airstrikes.
The restriction specifically bars safe passage for vessels affiliated with Israel or the United States.
IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi stated Iranian forces prepared a vast battlefield to deter enemy actions.
Mohebbi cited recent orders from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei opening a new chapter of war.
Khamenei instructed military commanders to deliver immediate responses without geographical limitations to any threat.
The IRGC now targets enemy positions across expanded geographical regions beyond traditional borders.
These military warnings coincide with increasing reports of potential United States military operations against Iran.
Top military officials recently briefed U.S. President Donald Trump regarding strategic options against Tehran.
Washington also alerted several Gulf allies to prepare for possible intensive military campaigns after elections.
