NCORD Meeting: Comprehensive plans to address drug issues in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: A crucial Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting was convened at the Collectorate Auditorium in Jamshedpur under the chairmanship of District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal. The meeting saw the participation of Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal, Rural cum City SP Rishabh Garg, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Majhi, and other key officials from various departments.

The primary agenda of the meeting was to address the growing issue of narcotics in the district. Discussions centered around the implementation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which includes strategies for combating drug production, processing, and smuggling. The committee reviewed ongoing cases and discussed preventive measures against drug peddling, particularly targeting youth populations.

One of the key directives was for a coordinated approach among the police administration, health department, and drug enforcement agencies to tackle the drug menace. This includes immediate action against establishments like hotels and dhabas found selling liquor illegally. The meeting also emphasized the need to review and enhance measures against drug abuse and illegal drug trade within the district.

In addition to addressing the drug trade, the meeting focused on preventive measures and public awareness. Officials were instructed to identify potential areas of drug cultivation and establish a local information system for tracking drug-related activities. It was also mandated that all relevant departments—police, excise, and transport—gather intelligence on smuggling trends along interstate and inter-district routes.

To create a drug-free society, the committee highlighted the importance of running awareness campaigns in schools and educational institutions. Regular raids were instructed in high-risk areas such as educational institutions, dhabas, slum areas, and public places like bus stands and railway stations to prevent drug distribution.

Further, the meeting discussed making the drug control helpline number more accessible and providing counseling for drug addicts and their families. It was emphasized that individuals recovering from drug addiction should be connected with self-employment opportunities and government schemes through rehabilitation centers.

Present at the meeting were ADM (SOR), Municipal Body Officer, SDO, District Public Relations Officer, Food Safety Officer, and other relevant officers, reflecting a unified effort to combat drug-related issues and enhance community safety and support systems.
