Jamshedpur, July 3: Concerned about law and order issues in the Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency, MLA Purnima Sahu met Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey on Wednesday and submitted a detailed memorandum seeking urgent action on public safety concerns.

In the memorandum, MLA Sahu raised key issues, including the non-availability of police station in-charges on their official mobile numbers, which are often handed over to subordinates. She also pointed out that landline phones at several police stations are non-functional, hampering emergency communication.

She urged for regular patrolling by Tiger Mobile units and their timely rotation. Highlighting traffic problems, she stated that traffic police should focus beyond just helmet checks and ensure smooth traffic flow, road safety and congestion management.

Sahu also raised concerns over illegal parking of buses, trucks and trailers on main roads, leading to frequent traffic jams and accidents. She emphasized the need for increased police patrolling in busy areas like Sakchi, Baridih, Birsanagar, Telco, Golmuri, Sidhgora and Khadangajhar to deter crime. She also sought special monitoring near schools and colleges, especially during dispersal hours, to ensure students’ safety.

Expressing alarm over the growing drug trade, Sahu said, “Open drug consumption near street food stalls and public places is endangering the youth. Strict legal action and special drives are needed to eliminate this menace.”

SSP Piyush Pandey assured that the issues would be addressed promptly and necessary steps would be taken to improve law and order in the city. MLA representative Gunjan Yadav was also present during the meeting.
