Gamharia, Jan 30: Dumri MLA Jairam Mahato visited Toyo Colony on Thursday after hearing about the collapse of flats in the area, a former subsidiary of Tata Steel located in Gamharia. The incident left several families stranded, spending their nights on the streets. During his visit, Mahato met with the affected families, inquired about their conditions, and assured them of all possible help. He spoke with the Deputy Commissioner, the Zonal Officer of Gamharia, and Tata Management officials, instructing them to immediately relocate the families to safer flats. However, Tata Management initially declined to take action. In response, Mahato contacted Saraikela Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla, who confirmed that the relocation process would soon begin. The families expressed their frustration, particularly the women, who revealed that they had been living outdoors with their young children for the past four days. “No action has been taken by the local administration or the company management to provide us with proper accommodation,” said one of the women. The temporary flats offered were in dilapidated condition, without essential amenities, and deemed unsafe to live in. Mahato promised that he would ensure immediate assistance and better living conditions for the affected families. His visit was accompanied by a large number of Toyo Colony residents and Jharkhand Loktantrik Kranti Morcha party workers.
