Jamshedpur, Mar 23: Minister Ramdas Soren and 12 others have been acquitted due to a lack of evidence in a case related to protesting and showing black flags to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The verdict was delivered on Saturday by the First Class Judicial Magistrate, Shushila Soreg.

The case dates back to April 24, 2016, when workers of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) staged a protest against the Prime Minister’s visit. They marched from Kadma and Sonari Dispensary Road, raising slogans and displaying black flags. However, the police stopped them near Sonari Airport, preventing further demonstrations. The Prime Minister had arrived for an event at JRD Complex.

Following the protest, a case was registered based on the statement of the then Sonari police station in-charge. The only witness, female constable Rupam Kumari, testified in court. Among those acquitted were Suman Mahato, Ajay Rajak, Babar Khan, Mohan Karmakar and others. Another accused, retired DSP Budhwa Urao, passed away during the trial.

Defence advocates G. Barat Babala and suspended Barak represented the accused in court. The acquittal marks the conclusion of the long-pending case due to insufficient evidence.
