Jamshedpur: Young chess talent Debanjan Sinha delivered an impressive performance at the National Rapid Chess Championship, held from March 20-22 at Sarla Birla University, Ranchi. Organized by the Ranchi District Chess Association, the tournament saw participation from 308 players representing 22 states and three affiliated units.
Sinha, representing Jamshedpur, secured the 33rd rank with a commendable score of 7.5 points in 11 rounds. Among the 140 players from Jharkhand, he emerged as the best performer. His remarkable run included a victory against International Master (IM) Sambit Panda of Odisha in the third round and a win over Utsav Chatterjee in the 11th round. He also held IM Sahil Day to a draw in the 10th round.

His stellar performance earned him 88 FIDE rating points, bringing his current rating to 1922. With a goal of reaching 2400 FIDE rating to achieve the International Master title, Sinha is steadily progressing towards this milestone.
A total of 21 players from Jamshedpur participated in the tournament, which also featured top players like Grand Masters PA Iniyan, M Pranesh, and Shyaam Nikhil from Tamil Nadu, showcasing high-level competition.
