Jamshedpur, May 2: Jharkhand, particularly the Kolhan region, finds itself in the throes of a severe heat wave, with temperatures soaring and discomfort gripping residents. On Thursday, Baharagora recorded the highest temperature at a scorching 43.7 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Seraikela at 43 degrees Celsius, and Jamshedpur at 42.6 degrees Celsius. Other districts, including West Singhbhum, Godda, and Jamtara, also experienced sweltering heat, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Department, a heat wave alert is in effect for most parts of the state from May 4 to 5, heightening concerns among residents and authorities alike. However, relief appears to be on the horizon, as forecasts predict a change in weather patterns from May 5 onwards. Rainfall is expected to grace the region until May 9, bringing with it a decrease in temperature by two to three degrees Celsius.
For Friday, a yellow alert has been issued for several districts, including West Singhbhum, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Deoghar, and Dumka, indicating the severity of the prevailing heat wave.
Looking ahead, the forecast indicates rain accompanied by thunderstorms in northeastern districts such as Deoghar, Dumka, Dhanbad, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, and Sahebganj on May 5. On May 6, similar weather conditions are expected to prevail, extending to areas including Deoghar, Jamtara, Dhanbad, Sahibganj, and Pakur. From May 7 to 9, rain with thunderstorms is anticipated across most districts of the state, with wind speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.
