Jamshedpur, May 2: The management of Kerala Public School, Burmamines, Jamshedpur, convened a press conference on Thursday, highlighting concerns regarding the implementation of the Right to Education Act in private schools. Director Shrikant Nair emphasized that the current system promotes students up to the 8th grade without sufficient academic effort, leading to a lack of preparedness for higher classes.
Nair expressed frustration over students’ reluctance to exert themselves academically, particularly upon reaching the 9th grade, where they often expect effortless progression. He cited this attitude as a primary reason for academic failures. Despite attempts to enforce academic standards, the management faces resistance, with protesting students and parents compelling administrations to promote failing students under pressure from authorities.
The school director called upon the government to reconsider the applicability of the Right to Education Act in private institutions, advocating for its abolition to incentivize diligent study habits among students. Nair stressed the importance of parental involvement, urging parents to collaborate with the school in addressing academic challenges faced by their children. Emphasizing a partnership approach, he encouraged parents to engage with teachers to ensure students receive necessary support and guidance.
Furthermore, Nair highlighted the requirement for a minimum attendance of 75 percent, lamenting students’ frequent absenteeism without repercussions. He emphasized the need for collective efforts from both parents and the management to foster an environment conducive to academic excellence.
The school’s initiative, titled “Help Us to Help You,” aims to foster collaboration between parents and the management to facilitate students’ academic success.
