Massive fraud in Maiya Samman Yojana: 584 ineligible beneficiaries identified in Jharkhand’s Palamu

Ranchi, Feb 9: A massive fraud has been uncovered in the Maiya Samman Yojana in Palamu district, where 584 ineligible beneficiaries were found receiving benefits under the scheme. The administrative investigation revealed that individuals above the age of 50, para teachers and Anganwadi Sevikas were fraudulently included in the beneficiary list, despite not meeting the eligibility criteria. Several cases of double applications using multiple bank accounts were also detected, but the authorities prevented fund disbursement due to timely verification.

The investigation, which is being carried out across 21 blocks in Palamu, has so far exposed fraudulent cases in four blocks. Medininagar Sadar Block recorded the highest number with 189 fake beneficiaries, followed by Satbarwa Block with 170, Ramgarh Block with 143 and Leslieganj Block with 82. The findings have raised serious concerns about the misuse of welfare schemes meant for the needy. Reports indicate that even family members of government employees were illegally availing the benefits.

Assistant Director of the Social Security Department Vikram Anand confirmed that the funds would be recovered from the ineligible beneficiaries. “We have identified the fraudsters and will take appropriate action to recover the amount. A detailed report is being prepared for further legal steps,” he stated. Authorities are now working to strengthen the verification process to prevent future fraud. The case highlights the need for stricter scrutiny and transparency in government welfare programs.
