Manju’s granddaughter in California leads team to football finals

Jamshedpur: In a heartwarming moment for a proud family, Tanya, a young footballer from California, has led her team to the finals after defeating strong contenders Washington and New York in the semi-finals. Tanya, who captains her team and also serves as the goalkeeper, represents the California side, dressed in white.

Her grandmother Manju Singh, a resident of Jamshedpur shared the joyous news, recalling a cherished family legacy in sports. “My younger daughter, Tanya’s mother, was the first in our family after me to represent her school—Gulmohur School Jamshedpur—in international sports. Now, Tanya not only excels in football but is also a karate champion,” she said.

The proud grandmother remembered her own sporting days in 1966, when she had travelled from Patna to Delhi to compete, narrowly missing a win in the finals. “Seeing the children reach this stage today fills me with immense happiness,” she added.
