Jamshedpur, April 25: Concerned about potential traffic congestion and disruption to local businesses, shopkeepers of Mango Bazaar have submitted a letter to the District Deputy Commissioner, requesting urgent revisions to the design of the under-construction flyover near Mango Payal Cinema. They have also appealed for a temporary suspension of construction work on Cinema Road until the design was reconsidered.
In their letter, the shopkeepers highlighted several flaws in the current flyover plan. They pointed out that the structure was being developed as a one-way route from Sakchi to Mango, with the flyover descending near Payal Cinema. However, the road in this area was already quite narrow, and the ongoing construction had further reduced the usable space to a single path, severely affecting traffic flow and pedestrian movement.
The shopkeepers expressed concern over the lack of transparency in the planning process. They said no public information had been shared regarding the dimensions of the service road or the exact layout of the flyover. Based on observations, they feared that the construction would result in a pillar occupying one side of the road, leaving only the existing narrow path for all traffic, leading to regular traffic jams and inconvenience for pedestrians.
They have urged the Deputy Commissioner to present the flyover’s design publicly and organize a joint meeting involving local public representatives, departmental officials and shopkeepers. The shopkeepers demanded that the full construction blueprint be shared, and necessary changes be made based on local feedback to ensure minimal disruption and long-term convenience for the area’s residents and businesses.
