Jamshedpur: The sixth Jharkhand Assembly will see a significant change in its political landscape, especially within the opposition. Many key figures from both the ruling and opposition parties, including prominent leaders from the BJP and AJSU, will be missing from the House.
One of the most noticeable changes is in the opposition, which has seen a major reduction in its size and influence. In the last assembly, leaders like Bhanu Prasad Shahi, who was known for his aggressive interventions, were regular fixtures in the House. However, Bhanu, along with several other senior opposition leaders such as Randhir Singh, Anant Ojha, and Biranchi Narayan, lost their seats in the recent elections.
Amar Bauri, the former Leader of Opposition, who was one of the most vocal figures in the previous assembly, also lost his election. His absence will be felt, as he was known for leading sharp critiques of the ruling party. “The opposition’s voice has been significantly weakened, with the absence of many aggressive leaders,” said a senior political analyst.
The AJSU Party, which had two MLAs in the last assembly, also faced a major setback. Sudesh Mahato, who was one of the strongest voices of the opposition, will no longer be heard in the House. The party’s representation has been reduced to just one MLA, Tiwari Mahto, a first-time winner. This marks a sharp decline in the party’s influence.
“The AJSU’s voice, once a key element of the opposition’s strength, has been greatly diminished,” said political observer Ramesh Kumar.
In addition to the BJP and AJSU losses, other experienced political figures are also missing. Neelkanth Singh Munda, a four-term MLA, Manish Jaiswal, a former MP from Hazaribagh, and Ramchandra Chandravanshi, an experienced BJP leader, are all absent.
The absence of key leaders also means that familiar rivalries, such as those between Bhanu Prasad Shahi and Mithilesh Thakur, as well as Saryu Rai and Banna Gupta, will no longer take place. Bhanu and Mithilesh have both lost their elections, and while Saryu Rai will be present, Banna Gupta has lost his seat.
With the opposition losing several influential leaders, the upcoming session of the Jharkhand Assembly is expected to have a different tone, as the absence of these voices will reshape the political dynamics.
