Jamshedpur: Agricultural loans up to Rs 2 lakh for 74,077 farmers across the Kolhan division, including East Singhbhum, have been waived off, amounting to a total of Rs 283 crore 67 lakh. This initiative is part of the state government’s Kisan Rin Mafi Yojana, which aims to relieve farmers of their financial burdens.
The loan waiver applies to those who took agricultural loans before March 31, 2020, with benefits being provided under the government’s earlier announced policy. While loans for many farmers have been successfully waived, some cases are still pending, and the process is ongoing.
Vivek Biruwa, District Agriculture Officer of East Singhbhum, stated, “Agricultural loans up to Rs 2 lakh of 26,759 farmers of East Singhbhum have been waived. The process of waiving loans for the remaining 230 farmers is underway.” In East Singhbhum, a total of Rs 101 crore 27 lakh has been waived off for these 26,759 farmers.
West Singhbhum has also seen significant relief, with loans of Rs 100 crore 9 lakh waived for 25,828 farmers. Meanwhile, in Saraikela-Kharsawan, the government has waived off Rs 82 crore 31 lakh for 21,490 farmers.
While the scheme has benefitted thousands, the government has not yet announced a deadline for applications, allowing more farmers to take advantage of the waiver. The loan waiver program remains a crucial support for the agricultural community in Kolhan, providing significant financial relief to many.
