Jamshedpur, July 26: City-based La Gravitea, a cafe at 2, C H Area, is all set to host an
annual Miss Deaf contest �KhamoSheWithLife� with an aim to empower
deaf community on July 28. In view of COVID-19 the event will take
place on Facebook and Twitter platforms. It will witness more than 100
deaf participants (that includes three from foreign countries South
Africa, Nairobi, Bangladesh).
For the first time in the history of the country, a cafe is
organising such a magnanimous online event empowering deaf community
for the fourth consecutive year.
The judge Monique Martinez from USA will declare six winners in six
different categories with total prize money of Rs.28,720 being
transferred to the winners bank account directly.
City-based caf� La Gravitea, is led by businessman Avinash Dugar. The
most unique part of the caf� is that it offers employment to the
hearing impaired.
La Gravitea in posh Circuit House Area has employed waitresses and
cooks, all sourced from Sonari’s Bal Vihar, an institution that works
with the hearing impaired. Apart from serving breakfast, lunch and
drinks, the most unique feature about the cafeteria is their
initiative to empower women with hearing impaired.
�I always had a passion to start my own venture. Moreover, I want to
serve the society in every way possible. I resigned from the corporate
world and started my own tea vending kiosk. I had a popular tea kiosk
near Sacred Heart Convent School, where one morning a hearing impaired
girl came with her brother,” recounted Dugar.
