Chaibasa, Mar 8: Kolhan University in Chaibasa hosted an elaborate district-level program to mark International Women’s Day 2025. The event, organized under the leadership of Singhbhum MP Joba Majhi, brought together several prominent figures, including Chaibasa Zila Parishad President Laxmi Suren, District Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary and Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar.
The ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp by the guests, followed by speeches and a series of award presentations. Notably, girls from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Residential School in Chaibasa, who excelled academically, were honoured. Ankita Banra received the award for outstanding performance in Class 8, while Reema Pradhan was recognized for her achievements in Class 12.
In addition to academic awards, the event also celebrated sporting achievements. Rupa Rani Tirki, who excelled in lawn ball and Chandmuni Kunkal, a champion in archery, were among those honoured with the Nari Shakti Samman for their contributions to sports. Other athletes like Madhuri Kunkal and Mili Machhuven, who excelled at the SGFI national games in Gujarat, were also awarded for their outstanding performances.
The program also recognized the efforts of nine Sevikas for their exemplary work in promoting nutrition and women’s rights under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative. Several community members, including pregnant women and newborns, were also celebrated with Godhbharai (pregnancy blessing) and Annaprasan (first rice-eating ceremony) rituals.
MP Joba Majhi delivered a motivational speech, urging everyone to support women’s self-reliance and empowerment. “The vision of a progressive society can only be realized when we empower women, making them self-reliant and confident,” she said. She also called for a safe, secure environment for women, where they can continue to break barriers and achieve new heights.
Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary echoed these sentiments, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s empowerment through various schemes. “We are ensuring access to education, skill development and financial independence for women at the grassroots level,” he said.
The event also included vibrant cultural performances, including a dance on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and a drama on women’s empowerment, adding an artistic touch to the occasion.
