‘Kiranmayee Dey was an unparalleled character’

Jamshedpur, May 5: Rich tributes were paid today to reputed footwear company Sreeleathers’s founder Suresh Chandra Dey’s wife Kiranmayee Dey, on her 95th birth anniversary on Saturday, May 5.

Shekhar Dey, son of founder Suresh Chandra Dey and Kiranmayee Dey led the proceedings by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Kiranmayee Dey at the homage function organised at the Sreeleathers showroom in Kamani Centre, Bistupur.
Addressing the gathering, Shekhar Dey, said, ‘Today we are celebrating the 95th birth anniversary of Kiranmayee Dey who is remembered as fearless, confident and sharp decision maker be it in household affairs or in the business front�.

Kiranmayee Dey played an instrumental role in setting up of the shoe trade empire.
‘Kiranmayee’s birth anniversary is celebrated as a special occasion under the banner of encourage girl child. Sreeleathers understands the need of the society and hope we continue to achieve new heights of success’, added Dey.

On the occasion general manager of Sreeleathers, Tushar Sarkar, said, Kiranmayee Dey was the driving force behind Sreeleathers success and it was her decision and support to Suresh Chandra Dey right from the foundation days made it a renowned footwear retail chain.

Sreeleathers continues to offer assistance to the society and with the help of Red FM sanitary pad vending machine is being provided to government schools in and around Jamshedpur.

Social worker Bhaskar Mitra said, Kiranmayee Dey was an unparallel character and she played an instrumental role in setting up of the shoe trade empire and stood by her husband during his struggle days and motivated him to fulfill his dreams.

Another social worker and member of The Milanee, Bimal Chakraborty, said, Kiranmayee was the mother of not only an individual but of the society.
Later, the dignitaries arrived in hordes to pay tributes to the wife of the legendary figure by garlanding her portrait. Sreeleathers staffs and a large number of visitors kept pouring in at the showroom throughout the day.

Kiranmayee Dey was born in 1923 in Assam and later to moved to Jamshedpur where she breathed her last in 2011.

Suresh Chandra Dey, a visionary leader was born on April 21, 1911. Dey brewed up a unique way of serving his motherland. He felt the need for generation of capital growth and employment within his country as the best way to serve the nation.

A patriot and a great revolutionary, Suresh Chandra Dey, was a trusted disciple of Surya Sen, a protagonist of the Chhattogram armoury plunder. Set up in 1953 by Suresh Chandra Dey, a noted freedom fighter of his time, the Group entered the export market in 1993-94. The first Sreeleathers shop set up at Jamshedpur in 1953 still stands today.
