Kali Puja in Jamshedpur echo’s Diwali’s enthusiasm

Jamshedpur: Kali Puja, a significant festival celebrated with fervour, witnessed grand-scale festivities in Jamshedpur this year. The enthusiasm and devotion displayed during Kali Puja were comparable to the grandeur seen during Diwali, marking a joyous beginning for the worship of Goddess Gusto.

Ranu Ghosh, a senior functionary of the Kali Puja Committee in Jugsalai, expressed the importance of Kali Puja and the traditional celebrations that accompany it. A massive pandal, symbolizing the grandeur of the occasion, was erected for the festivities. Despite the heightened pomp and show during Durga Puja, the devotion and enthusiasm for Kali Puja were unmistakable.

Multiple Kali Puja pandals graced various locations in Sonari, Burmamines, Parsudih, and across Jamshedpur. The pandals were inaugurated amidst great enthusiasm, with more than 20 major Kali Pujas being celebrated in the steel city. Notably, five to six of these Pujas were marked as big-budget celebrations.

Continuing the tradition, the Young Boys’ Club at Telco erected a 22ft-tall goddess, standing as a visual spectacle. The Kali Puja Committee pandal at Jail Chowk became a highlight of the celebrations, showcasing the creative and artistic spirit of the community.

Homes were adorned with decorations, and elaborate Rangoli patterns adorned the front of houses and courtyards. The visual appeal added to the festive atmosphere, creating a vibrant backdrop for the celebrations.

As evening fell, elaborate Kali Puja ceremonies took place at the pandals. The Bengali community, recognizing Goddess Kali as a force to be reckoned with, spared no effort in conducting special pujas. Through these rituals, people sought blessings for happiness, prosperity, and protection against hardships.

Goddess Kali holds a significant place in Hindu mythology, being the first of the ten incarnations of Goddess Durga. Depicted with a fierce face and a terrifying look, Kali is regarded as the more aggressive form of Goddess Durga. The imagery of Kali often portrays her foot on Lord Shiva’s chest, holding a severed head in one hand, wielding a sword in the other, and adorned with a garland of skulls. Worshipers revere Kali as the Mother Goddess who destroys all evil and fiercely fights for justice.

The grand celebrations of Kali Puja in Jamshedpur not only reflected cultural richness but also showcased the deep-rooted traditions and unity of the community. The festivities, marked by pandal extravaganzas, artistic installations, and traditional rituals, echoed the joyous spirit of Diwali, fostering a sense of togetherness and devotion among the celebrants.
