Jamshedpur, Aug 13: Johar Haat, a vibrant celebration of tribal culture, history, and craftsmanship, is set to return with its latest edition from August 14 to 20 at Prakriti Vihar, Kadma. The week-long event promises a colourful confluence of traditions, cuisines, and artistry, bringing together participants from Jharkhand, Assam, and Odisha.
This edition will showcase the heritage of six prominent tribes — Kharwar, Bodo, Oraon, Ho, Munda, and Santhal — with 21 participants exhibiting their crafts, food, and traditional healing practices. The event not only highlights tribal creativity but also pays tribute to legendary tribal freedom fighters who fought against British colonial rule and social injustices.
The heroes being honoured include Birsa Munda, the leader of the Ulgulan movement and a symbol of tribal pride and resistance; Sidho and Kanho Murmu, who led the Santhal Rebellion of 1855–1856; Shaheed Jirpa Singh Laya, leader of the Bhumij rebellion against forced indigo cultivation; and Poto Ho, who fought British forces in south Kolhan between 1836 and 1837.
A Cultural and Culinary Extravaganza
The venue will be adorned with an open-ceiling design and colourful cloth drapes, creating a festive ambiance. Visitors can participate in engaging workshops, such as cane craft-making and tribal jewellery-making, offering a hands-on experience in traditional skills.
Food lovers will enjoy an array of tribal delicacies, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian platters, thali combos, and the popular “Madwa Momos.” This year also features a fusion twist, combining traditional Jharkhand flavours with Korean cuisine — a nod to contemporary culinary trends.

Several stalls will highlight the diverse artistry of participating tribes:

By integrating cultural celebration with historical remembrance, the event ensures that the stories of Jharkhand’s tribal freedom fighters remain alive for future generations.
