Baharagora, Dec 23: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) staged a one-day dharna at Flower Chowk on Monday to protest the deteriorating condition of the bypass road at the junction of NH 18 and NH 49 in Baharagora block, Triveni Sangam, Jharkhand.
Newly elected MLA Samir Kumar Mohanty, attending as the chief guest, criticized the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for poor road design, which has turned the bypass into a main thoroughfare, leading to frequent accidents and fatalities. He highlighted that the presence of key establishments such as Plus Two High School, Baharagora College, and the Inter-State Bus Stand along the road exacerbated the problems faced by students and the general public.
Local residents expressed their frustration over the dusty road conditions, which had been persisting for eight months, despite significant toll tax collection by the central government.
During the protest, JMM workers and residents jointly submitted a memorandum to the NHAI, demanding immediate resolution of these issues.
Those present on the occasion included JMM Block President Asit Mishra, Vice-President Lambodar Kunwar, and other leaders like Tapas Mohapatra, Shivcharan Hansda, and Sudip Patnaik, along with several local residents.
