Jharkhand to receive light rain on Christmas eve

Jamshedpur: India Meteorological Department (IMD) Ranchi Meteorological Centre has forecasted light rain in isolated pockets on Tuesday, December 24, with a partly cloudy sky likely to prevail across several districts today. The weather conditions in the state are expected to remain stable with gradual shifts in temperature and fog patterns over the next few days.

According to the detailed weather forecast issued by the IMD, north-western and southern parts of Jharkhand are likely to experience a partly cloudy sky with a chance of light rain at isolated locations tomorrow, adding to the already variable weather conditions across the region. While rain is not expected to be widespread, the scattered showers are expected to bring a brief respite from the chill in some areas.

The IMD’s forecast further suggests that shallow to moderate fog will continue to impact several parts of the state over the next 72 hours. This fog is expected to reduce visibility, particularly in the early mornings, which could affect both road traffic and air travel. The foggy conditions are typical for this time of year, with Jharkhand experiencing the tail end of the winter season, which brings cooler temperatures and increased moisture in the air.

In terms of temperatures, the state is experiencing relatively mild winter conditions, with Ranchi recording a minimum temperature of 11.5°C this morning. The minimum temperature in Jamshedpur was slightly higher at 13.4°C, while Daltonganj recorded a minimum of 12.3°C. Other regions also showed similar cool temperatures, with Bokaro reporting 11.6°C and Chaibasa in West Singhbhum also marking a minimum temperature of 11.6°C.

The IMD has indicated that there will be no significant changes in the minimum temperatures during the next three to four days, meaning the cool weather is expected to continue. These relatively stable temperature conditions are a reminder that winter is settling in across Jharkhand, bringing with it the characteristic chill that residents have come to expect during this time of year.

With the ongoing fog and cloud cover, the day-time temperatures will remain moderate, and the likelihood of rain in isolated areas will add to the mix of weather conditions. As fog may linger, travel plans may be impacted, and commuters are advised to exercise caution, particularly on highways and rural roads where visibility may be compromised.

The IMD’s updated weather advisory also noted that while the chance of significant rainfall in the coming days is low, the presence of fog will continue to have an impact on daily activities. In particular, the morning fog will persist until mid-morning, gradually lifting as the day progresses.
