Jharkhand: Kolkata based businessmen sent to jail after ED arrest

Ranchi, June 8: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) produced Kolkata-based businessmen Amit Agarwal and Dilip Ghosh, arrested in connection with the sale and purchase of army-occupied land, in the court.

On Thursday, the ED sought a remand of five days while presenting the PMLA in the court of the special judge. On this, the court, while fixing the date of hearing on Friday, sent both of them to judicial custody for 14 days.

ED had on Wednesday called Kolkata businessman Amit Agarwal and Jagatbandhu Tea State director Dilip Ghosh to ED’s regional office in Ranchi for questioning and  after an hour-long interrogation, the ED arrested both of them.

The court sent both the businessmen to jail after their arrest in the case of sale and purchase of land, there was a lot of activity in the ED office and the PMLA court since Thursday morning. In the morning, a medical team reached the ED office for the health checkup of both the businessmen.

After being found normal in the health checkup, the ED produced both of them in the PMLA special court in the afternoon from where the court sent both of them to judicial custody.

The hearing will be held in the court on June 9. During this, the ED asked for a five-day remand for questioning the two businessmen regarding the matter related to the land. On which the court asked for hearing on Friday. On Friday, once again the ED will request the court to take both the businessmen on remand.

10 people have been arrested so far in the case of sale and purchase of Army land  by the ED.

Earlier, eight accused including former Ranchi DC Chhavi Ranjan have been arrested and sent to jail. Apart from Chhavi Ranjan, the accused arrested in this case are Abid Khan, Imtiaz Ahmed, Pradeep Bagchi, Saddam Hussain, Talha Khan, Bhanu Pratap and Fayaz Khan.
