Jamshedpur, Oct 10: In a landmark decision, the Jharkhand High Court on Friday cleared the way for providing separate electricity connections to all residents of Cable Town, Jamshedpur. The verdict came in response to a long-pending writ petition, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of consumers in the area. The information was shared by Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy, who had been actively pursuing this issue for several years.
According to Saryu Roy, the High Court had issued an interim order about a year ago, directing residents of Cable Town to apply to Tata Steel UISL (TSUIL) for individual electricity connections. While TSUIL had expressed its readiness to provide the connections, most residents did not come forward to complete the formalities. With the latest final order, the court has now removed all legal hurdles, allowing residents to proceed without delay.
Roy urged the people of Cable Town to take advantage of this opportunity and apply for separate connections immediately, completing all necessary legal and procedural steps. He assured that his team would assist residents throughout the process and, if required, organize special camps to help fill out application forms.
Expressing satisfaction, he said, “I am deeply pleased that the demand I raised during my tenure as MLA of Jamshedpur East has finally been fulfilled. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the officials of Tata Steel for their cooperation and for ensuring that no obstacles were created in the process.”
He highlighted that Cable Town residents had long faced hardships due to electricity being supplied through nine private vendors, which resulted in excessively high rates. With direct connections from TSUIL, the supply would now become regularized and affordable. TSUIL, he said, would soon settle accounts with existing vendors and streamline the supply system.
Saryu Roy also recalled that during his earlier tenure as MLA of Jamshedpur East, he successfully facilitated separate drinking water connections and improved road infrastructure in the Cable Town area with Tata Steel’s cooperation.
Concluding his statement, he said, “After ensuring drinking water and better roads, I am proud that every household in Cable Town will soon have its own electricity connection. This is a victory for the residents and a testament to collective effort and persistence.” He also thanked Tata Steel UISL for its constructive role during the legal proceedings and for prioritizing public welfare in this matter.
