Jamshedpur: District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Rajeev Ranjan, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the EVM warehouse in Kitadih, Jamshedpur Sadar block. The visit focused on verifying the security, maintenance, and safe storage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPAT units.
Security and Surveillance Directives
The Deputy Commissioner assessed the facility’s security deployment and surveillance systems, issuing several critical mandates to officials:
- ECI Compliance: Officials must strictly follow all guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India, with a zero-tolerance policy for negligence.
- Continuous Monitoring: CCTV cameras must function without interruption, and staff must maintain timely backups of all surveillance footage.
- Restricted Access: The Deputy Commissioner prohibited unauthorized access to the warehouse under any circumstances.
- Transparent Record-Keeping: Officials must maintain up-to-date and transparent daily inspection registers and logbooks.
Audit and Political Coordination
To ensure absolute transparency, the Deputy Commissioner called for regular security audits and periodic reviews of the facility’s reporting systems. The inspection also involved discussions with representatives from various political parties regarding maintenance protocols and security arrangements.
