Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has strongly condemned the arrest of renowned Ladakhi environmentalist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, calling it a targeted move to silence voices fighting for justice.
Taking to social media, Soren wrote, “Another ray of hope behind bars… the entire nation is watching the conspiracy to silence yet another strong voice dedicated to protecting water, forests, land, language, culture, and rights.”
Wangchuk’s arrest has sparked a new wave of ideological resistance across the country. Numerous activists and citizens are raising their voices against what they view as a systematic attempt to suppress dissent.
Wangchuk was detained following violence in Ladakh and is currently under house arrest at Jodhpur Central Jail in Rajasthan. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, his speeches allegedly cited the Arab Spring and Nepal’s Gen Z protests, which the authorities claim incited unrest.
His detention has drawn sharp political responses. Regional and national parties have criticized the central government, accusing it of violating democratic rights and stifling freedom of expression. The incident has fuelled growing anger among advocates of regional autonomy and grassroots activism.
