Jharkhand Bandh: JSSU Activists block Tata-Kandra road

Jamshedpur: The ongoing protest led by Jharkhand State Students Union (JSSU) activists intensified on its second day as demonstrators set up a blockade on the Tata-Kandra four-lane road near Kerala Public School. The move resulted in a significant disruption of vehicular communication along the route for more than two hours.

The JSSU activists are rallying against the state government’s employment policy, which they claim has neglected the interests of local students and job seekers. With the agitation continuing, protesters were determined to amplify their demands and attract attention to what they perceive as an unfair employment system.

During the blockade, the demonstrators gathered in large numbers, carrying placards and shouting slogans demanding immediate revisions to the employment policy. The blockade effectively halted traffic movement in both directions, causing inconvenience to commuters and creating a considerable backlog of vehicles.

Law enforcement authorities were swiftly dispatched to the site to maintain order and ensure the safety of protesters and motorists. Negotiations were initiated between representatives of the JSSU and government officials in an attempt to reach a resolution and find common ground.

Meanwhile, affected commuters expressed frustration over the disruption, particularly those who were traveling for work or had urgent commitments. Some voiced their concerns about the impact on the local economy due to the blockade, as it hindered the movement of goods and services.

The JSSU activists have vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are addressed by the state government. They argue that the current employment policy overlooks the aspirations and rights of Jharkhand’s youth, leaving them with limited opportunities for career growth.

As tensions persist, both the JSSU and government representatives are engaging in dialogues to find a mutually agreeable solution. The situation remains fluid, with the potential for further developments as the protest continues.

The protestors are demanding the 60-40 ratio of the present employment policy be scrapped and instead an employment policy based on ‘Khatiyan’ dating back to 1932 be implemented. They maintained that until the demand is not met the JSSU would continue the agitation

Local authorities have advised motorists to plan alternate routes or avoid the affected area until the situation is resolved. They have also assured the public that efforts are being made to minimize inconvenience and ensure a peaceful resolution to the agitation.

The JSSU’s continued activism and the ensuing blockade have heightened concerns about the state’s employment policy, drawing attention to the grievances of students and job seekers. The impact of this protest and its outcome will likely play a crucial role in shaping future policies and addressing the aspirations of Jharkhand’s youth.

The Tata-Kandra road is the only link road between Jamshedpur and Seraikela, a large number of vehicles had to remain stranded under the scorching sun, causing the commuters to suffer immensely.

As the protestors continued to block the vehicular movement, police parties from Gamharia and Adityapur police stations reached the spot and made the agitators to disperse from the blockade spot.
