Jharkhand Amrapali Mangoes Exported to Dubai’s Lulu Hypermarkets

New Delhi (IANS): Amrapali mangoes from the tribal belt of Jharkhand are all set to excite the taste buds of Dubai consumers.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the export of two metric tonnes (MT) of premium Amrapali mangoes from Jharkhand’s tribal belt to Dubai, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.

Exporter M/s Fair Exports (India) Pvt. Ltd. shipped the consignment for retail distribution across major Lulu stores in Dubai, marking a significant milestone for tribal and women-led farmer collectives.

From Tribal Orchards to Global Shelves

Officials flagged off the premium consignment on July 3, sourcing the fruit from three women-led Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) promoted by Palash – Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS):

  • Gumla District: APEDA-registered MVM Baghima Palkot Producer Company Limited and Raidih Agri Producer Company Limited supplied one metric tonne.
  • Deoghar District: Mohanpur Ajeevika Mahila Kisan Producer Society supplied the remaining one metric tonne.

Tribal women farmers cultivated these orchards under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana—a scheme implemented in convergence with MGNREGA and backed by the Jharkhand government.

180% Revenue Boost for Women Farmers

The international export delivered an immediate economic windfall to local communities. Participating women-led FPC members secured nearly 180% higher returns compared to prevailing local market prices.

This initiative highlights the power of global market access in boosting rural incomes. The three participating FPCs hold a massive network, each counting more than 1,500 shareholders and collectively representing over 50,000 member farmers.

Preparing Farmers for the Global Stage

The successful shipment follows aggressive training and capacity-building programs designed by APEDA to make regional collectives export-ready:

  • Gumla Training (May): APEDA hosted a session in Palkot to brief eight FPCs on international quality standards, post-harvest handling, and export laws. District officials from Agriculture, Horticulture, JSLPS, and the District Industries Centre (DIC) also participated.
  • Deoghar Outreach (September 2025): APEDA’s Kolkata Regional Office organized a development program in Devipur block to educate women entrepreneurs and self-help groups on its Financial Assistance Scheme and global trade procedures.
