Over 90 students join ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign
Jamshedpur, July 7: Tata Steel Zoological Park successfully celebrated Van Mahotsav 2026, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable living. The concluding day of the week-long celebration witnessed the organization of a special plantation drive under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, encouraging participants to dedicate a tree to their mothers while contributing to a greener future.
As part of the initiative, fruit-bearing plants of wild origin were planted within the zoo premises to enhance biodiversity and support wildlife through the creation of natural food resources. More than 90 students from Jamshedpur Women’s University enthusiastically participated in the plantation programme. Employees of Tata Steel Zoological Park also joined the drive, demonstrating their collective commitment towards environmental stewardship.
During the programme, Dr. Naim Akhtar, Director, Tata Steel Zoological Park, interacted with the students and highlighted the significance of Van Mahotsav as a nationwide movement for environmental protection. He emphasized the importance of tree plantation and afforestation in mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity, improving air quality, and ensuring ecological sustainability for future generations.
Dr. Akhtar also encouraged the students to become ambassadors of environmental conservation and actively participate in green initiatives within their communities. The participants were sensitized to the long-term benefits of increasing green cover and protecting natural habitats.
