Jamshedpurians ring in 2014 with booms and flashes, throng picnic spots

People across the city celebrated the beginning of the New Year with different styles with no major untoward incident reported so far. The New Year was celebrated here with great enthusiasm and fervour. Besides organising formal celebrations, various social and religious organisations wished a prosperous New Year to each other.

The highlight of the New Year’s eve celebration was at Hotel Citi Inn where a dance troupe enthralled the audience with scintillating performances. People danced on the tunes till late night to welcome the New Year. Hotels like Fortune Hotel Centre Point, The Sonnet organised special dinners for its customers.

The people were busy dancing on various Bollywood numbers. Hotels in all categories lined up a variety of events to attract people. Several housing complexes and societies in Sonari and Kadma also organized functions to welcome the year.

On the first day of the year, people thronged parks for picnics. Places like Tata Steel Zoological Park, Jubilee Park Dimna Lake and Hudco dam witnessed huge rush. On the other hand, celebrations in most hotels and clubs went on till the wee hours.

Officials of the zoological informed that they witnessed all-time high footfalls on January 1. About 20,000 people visited the zoo on New Year.

Zoological Park management thanked the picnickers for celebrating the first day of the year peacefully and the supporting the zoo authorities.

“Besides counting our achievements, we should consider our failures also and strive for improvement in the New Year,” said social worker Ramesh Saksena, while spreading the message of peace at Jubilee Park.

He said that songs, folk dances and choreography depicting problems arising out of social evils, including drug addiction, illiteracy and female foeticide should also be made part of celebrations.

DC DR. Amitabh Kaushal, ADM (law and Order) Ajit Shankar, ADC Ganesh Kumar, SDO Prem Ranjan visited the most crowded spot of the city, Jubilee Park looked at the security arrangements in place, interacted with the people and asked them about any if any issue they are facing while they are enjoying.

City SP Karthik S., SSP Amol V Homkar, DSP�s and other police station officials visited other picnic spots of the city namely Dimna Dam, Hudko Dam, Chandil Dam and many such spots and spotted the security arrangements in place and also interacted with the family who were enjoying their day out.

While patrolling police officials cracked down on citizens at Dimna Lake who were illegally consuming liquor in the open.

A large number of people gathered at religious places like gurudwaras and churches for special prayers to mark the beginning of the year 2012. On Wednesday TV Narendran, managing director, Tata Steel cut the cake at centre for exellence to welcome New Year.
