Jamshedpur youth caught with fake notes sent to jail, police investigating network

Jamshedpur: A sensational case of cheating through fake currency has come to light in the city, where a youth was duping people by circulating counterfeit notes under the pretext of offering attractive interest rates. The case was exposed by a resident of Bhuiyadih in the Sitaramdera police station area. Despite facing threats, he managed to apprehend the accused from Kapali’s Dobo locality and handed him over to the Sitaramdera police late on Monday night.

On Wednesday, police confirmed that the accused youth has been sent to jail and that an investigation into the entire network has commenced. Sources indicate that multiple members of this gang are active in the city, and authorities are working to trace them.

The accused has been identified as Faiz Mohammad, a resident of Old Purulia Road, Mango. Police recovered hundreds of counterfeit ₹500 notes marked with “Children Bank” from his possession. During interrogation, Faiz revealed that he procured these fake notes from Ranchi and exchanged them for real money by deceiving people with promises of high returns.

Amit Chauhan, the individual who exposed Faiz’s fraud, reported that the accused had offered him ₹10 lakh in exchange for ₹2 lakh. Upon closer inspection, Amit discovered that Faiz’s operation involved placing a genuine ₹500 note on top of a bundle, while the rest of the notes were counterfeit play money used by children. Realizing the scam, Amit Chauhan took action, caught Faiz, and handed him over to the Sitaramdera police.
