Jamshedpur: A major controversy has surfaced at Jamshedpur Women’s University after allegations emerged that students were being passed or failed in examinations in exchange for money. The issue, linked to the university’s Biotechnology Department, has prompted Lokbhawan (formerly Raj Bhavan) to take serious note and form a five-member inquiry committee.
The panel includes DSW Dr. Kishwar Ara, Proctor Dr. Sudhir Kumar Sahu, Dr. Amrita Kumari and Dr. Annapurna Jha. The committee will investigate complaints that certain students were allegedly given question notes in advance and assured high marks in return for cash. According to the complaint, Dr. Vishw Raj Lal of the Biotech Department collected money from students during exams, promising to help them pass. The allegations further claim that a portion of this amount was reportedly shared with former Registrar Prof. Rajendra Jaiswal and Controller of Examinations Dr. Rama Subramaniam.
Dr. Vishw Raj Lal, a Ranchi native, has been associated with the institution since its women’s college days and claims to have several published research papers. Despite this, he continues as a need-based or contractual faculty member.
Meanwhile, former Registrar Prof. Rajendra Jaiswal served multiple short tenures and remained in office repeatedly through Raj Bhavan extensions. Controller of Examinations Dr. Subramaniam, who has served since the university’s inception, allegedly continued even after crossing retirement age.
When contacted, University Proctor and spokesperson Dr. Sudhir Kumar Sahu said he had “no knowledge of the matter,” despite being named in the investigation committee
