Jamshedpur Women’s University hosts ‘Poshan Mela’ to promote nutrition awareness

Jamshedpur, Sept 11: Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) celebrated Nutrition Month with a “Poshan Mela,” jointly organized by the Department of Home Science and the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics. The event, themed “Nutrition for All,” aimed to promote awareness of healthy eating and balanced diets among students and the community.

The fair was organized under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Anjila Gupta, who lauded the efforts of students for spreading the message of nutrition and wellness. The inauguration was jointly carried out by Registrar Dr. Rajendra Jaiswal, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Kishwar Ira, Research Director Dr. Sudhir Sahu, and Head of the Home Science Department Dr. Rama Subramanian.

Students showcased their culinary creativity by preparing innovative and healthy recipes. A poster competition on the theme “Eat Right for a Better Life” was also held, attracting enthusiastic participation. The jury included Dr. Saloni Kujur, Head of the Botany Department; novelist Ritu Bharti; and Meherbai Memorial Hospital’s representative.

The fair also featured stalls where students sold their nutritious recipes, gaining practical exposure to product marketing and entrepreneurship. Faculty members including Dr. D. Pushpalatha, Sanchita Guha, Dr. Sunita Kumari, and others contributed significantly to the program’s success.

Winners of both the poster and recipe competitions were felicitated during the closing session. The event saw active involvement from faculty members such as Dr. Ratna Mitra, Dr. Amrita, Dr. Nupur, Dr. Pushpa, Dr. Sonali, and Dr. Rizwana, marking it as a vibrant and impactful initiative to promote health and nutrition.
