Jamshedpur, Sept 11: Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas were lashed by torrential rains on Thursday evening, leading to widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls across the city.
Several low-lying localities bore the brunt of the downpour as rainwater accumulated rapidly, leaving commuters stranded and vehicles struggling to move.
The spell of heavy rain, which began in the evening, was accompanied by thunderstorm activity and gusty winds at certain locations, adding to the chaos.
According to the local India Meteorological Department (IMD) observatory in Jamshedpur, the steel city recorded 26 mm of rainfall till 5.30 pm, with showers continuing beyond that hour.
The intensity of the rainfall was such that key stretches of roads in residential and commercial areas witnessed traffic disruptions, as vehicles moved bumper-to-bumper through waterlogged sections.
Pedestrians, too, faced difficulty wading through inundated streets.
Not just Jamshedpur, but several other parts of Jharkhand reported sharp showers on Thursday.
Districts including Dumka, Gumla, Jamtara, Khunti, Simdega, Latehar, Lohardaga, West Singhbhum and adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan also recorded showers, bringing temporary relief from humid conditions but causing inconvenience to residents.
The IMD has already issued a forecast of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds at isolated places in Jharkhand till September 14, hinting that more spells of rain are likely in the coming days.
