Jamshedpur Women’s University celebrates International Mother Language Day

Jamshedpur, Feb 22: International Mother Language Day was observed at the Bistupur campus of Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) on Wednesday. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Anjila Gupta was present along with Dean Students Welfare Dr Kishwar Ara, Dean Humanities Dr Sudhir Kumar Sahu and Dean Commerce. The programme started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. A welcome speech was delivered by Dr Pushpa Kumari, Head of Department, PG Hindi department.

In her address, Dr Anjila Gupta spoke on the significance of International Mother Language Day. She said India has a rich culture with many mother tongues. After British invasion, efforts were made to hit at the rich languages and culture of the country, she said.

Dr Gupta said many mother languages were extinct now and some were on the verge of getting lost. She stressed the need to promote and preserve all mother languages of India.
