Five-day Greensky Trophy from Sep 12 in Telco
Jamshedpur, Sep 8: Green Sky Foundation in association with East Singhbhum District Chess Association will be hosting State level Chess Championship Green Sky Trophy from 12 to 16 September, 2022 at Rammandir Hall in Telco. The tournament offers a price purse of Rs 1.78 lakh along with 35 trophies.
Informing about the mode and system of game play, Chief Arbiter Jayant Bhuyan said tournament will be conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess and FIDE Swiss System with 9 rounds with 90 minutes plus 30 second increment each.
“The tournament is open to players from Jharkhand and we have till date received 28 entries from five districts including East Singhbhum, Garhwa, Hazaribagh and Ranchi but we expect 150 players to participate in the cash rich event,” said Jayant Bhuyan while addressing a press conference at a hotel in Telco.
With 2041 rating Rohan Vijay Shandilya is the top seeded in boys’ category while Navika Jaiswal (Rating 1196) is the top rated player in the tournament.
Rahul Pathak, Head of Sports and Education, Green Sky Foundation and organiser of the tournament informed that winner will get Rs 50,000 cash award and a trophy. First runner-up will receive Rs 30,000 and a trophy while second runner-up will get Rs 20,000 and trophy. Top 30 players will receive cash award while top 3 players in veteran and female category will also receive cash awards, Pathak said.
He further said that trophy will be awarded to top 3 players from U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 both boys and girls and also to the youngest player.
“The aim behind hosting the tournament is uplift of sports and education, provide platform to individual and help society attain basic necessities of life. We have been running Akash Canteen in Jamshedpur which provides meal at Rs 10 and hope to spread in other parts of the city,” added Rahul Pathak
Also present at the press meet was Deputy Chief Arbiter Chandan Kumar Prasad.
