Tata Steel AITA 1 lac Men’s Championship begins June 5
Jamshedpur, June 2: Tata Steel Sports Department will be organising first Men’s National Ranking Prize Money Tennis Tournament at JRD Tata Sports Complex from June 5 to 9.
Tata Steel AITA 1 lac Men’s National Tennis Tournament will provide opportunity for locals to compete at the national level and earn valuable ranking points, said Hemant Gupta, Head, Sports, Tata Steel.
Addressing a press meet at JFC Media Conference Room on Friday, Gupta informed that for the first time five-day National Senior Men’s Tennis Tournament is being organized at JRD Sports Complex from June 5. The tournament will be inaugurated on June 5 at the tennis court of JRD Complex and the closing and prize distribution ceremony will be held on June 9.
“Main draw starts from June 5 and ends on June 9 while the qualifying rounds will be held on 3rd and 4th June. All players beyond the age of 14 years are eligible to participate which helps juniors to get an exposure to professional tennis,” added Gupta.
National players from almost eight states are participating in the Championship, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Mukul Vinayak Choudhary, Chief, Sports Excellence Centres, TFA & Sports said, the purpose of this tournament is to provide better platform to local players so that they can learn from national level players.
He informed that Jamshedpur based national level player Prasenjit Paul who currently plays for Maharashtra will also participate in the tournament. All India Tennis Association’s (AITA) eastern region representative Rishi Wilson, Technical Director of the tournament Vipul Kumar were also present at the press conference.
