Jamshedpur: JNAC intensifies drive against shopkeepers trading in banned plastic

Jamshedpur: In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and ensure compliance with regulations, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee has initiated a robust drive to charge penalties from shopkeepers found trading in banned plastic and operating without a valid trade license. The enforcement action aims to reinforce the importance of responsible business practices and minimize the use of harmful plastic materials that pose a threat to the environment.

Under the drive, officials from the civic body’s enforcement department, accompanied by law enforcement officers, conducted surprise inspections at various commercial establishments across the city. The drive was carried at Sakchi and Golmuri. The focus of the inspections was to identify and penalize shopkeepers who were using banned plastic materials, such as single-use plastic bags, and those operating without a valid trade license.

During the inspections, shopkeepers found violating the ban on plastic were issued immediate penalties as per the prescribed regulations. The penalties were intended not only to discourage the use of banned plastic but also to create awareness about the environmental consequences associated with its usage. Additionally, shopkeepers operating without a valid trade license were also charged penalties, highlighting the significance of complying with legal requirements and ensuring fair business practices.

The civic body’s drive to charge penalties serves as a strong message to shopkeepers and the business community that adherence to regulations and environmental sustainability are of paramount importance. It aims to instill a sense of responsibility and encourage the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives to plastic, such as paper bags or reusable containers, while promoting the importance of obtaining the necessary licenses to operate legally.

By implementing such strict measures, the civic body strives to create a cleaner and greener city, reducing the detrimental impact of plastic waste on the environment. The drive also seeks to foster a culture of compliance and accountability among shopkeepers, ensuring that business activities are carried out in accordance with the law and with due consideration for environmental preservation.

The civic body urges shopkeepers and the public to support these initiatives, emphasizing the collective responsibility to protect the environment and promote sustainable business practices. The ongoing drive will continue to enforce penalties on those found trading in banned plastic materials and operating without a valid trade license, with the ultimate goal of fostering a more eco-conscious and law-abiding community.
