Jamshedpur to create traffic-free routes for ambulances, emergency services

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Aug 14: The East Singhbhum district administration has decided to prepare a special traffic plan to ensure smooth passage for ambulances and emergency services. The decision came during a road safety meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Karan Satyarthi, which reviewed July’s traffic and accident data.

Last month, 24 road accidents occurred, resulting in 11 deaths and 16 serious injuries. Alarmingly, nine fatalities were linked to not wearing helmets, while in five cases helmets saved lives. Traffic congestion at Mango Bridge was identified as a major issue, with instructions given for intensified anti-overloading drives.

Two accident-prone “black spots” on NH-33, near Hotel City Inn and Dimna Chowk, will receive safety upgrades, including sliding barriers and improved lighting. Pending “hit-and-run” compensation cases will be fast-tracked. In July, 345 driving licences were suspended for violations and fines amounting to ₹18.38 lakh were collected. A total of 6,848 new driving licences were issued, including 736 for women.
