Jamshedpur: Senior JMM Leader Aastik Mahato opts out of Lok Sabha Elections

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, April 30: In a significant development, Aastik Mahato, a prominent figure within the JMM, has decided against contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, signaling a departure from his previous stance. Known for his influential role in securing victories for several MPs, Mahato’s decision marks a shift from his earlier intention to run as an independent candidate.

Initially contemplating an independent bid, Mahato engaged in discussions with his supporters for several days. However, he ultimately chose to withdraw from the electoral fray, citing insufficient support as an independent candidate. Allegedly, two parties, namely the Jharkhandi Bhasha Khatian Sangharsh Samiti and the Bharatiya Jantantra Morcha, sought to enlist Mahato conditionally into their ranks.

While both parties vied for his association, Mahato’s supporters expressed concerns regarding the viability of either option. They feared that aligning with the Bharatiya Jantantra Morcha might secure urban votes but neglect rural constituencies, whereas joining the Jharkhandi Bhasha Khatian Sangharsh Samiti could yield rural support but falter in urban areas. Faced with the prospect of inadequate backing from either side, Mahato ultimately chose to abstain from contesting this election cycle.
