Jamshedpur, August 22: In a bid to bolster security and surveillance, Jamshedpur SDO Parul Singh has issued a new directive mandating the installation of CCTV cameras across various establishments in the city. The order, enforced under Section 163 of the BNSS (corresponding to Section 144 of the CrPC), requires all significant locations to have CCTV coverage, with stringent penalties for non-compliance.

The directive encompasses a wide range of establishments, including banks, ATMs, jewellery shops, petrol pumps, hotels, restaurants, liquor shops, multi-storey apartments, bus stands, auto stands, paid parking areas, private hostels, hospitals, malls, medicine shops, and other critical locations. The CCTV systems must either have a recording feature or be capable of transmitting live feeds to the cloud.

SDO Singh emphasized that the cameras should be installed both inside and outside these establishments, covering public areas where there is potential for high foot traffic. Privacy considerations are to be respected, with cameras avoiding sensitive areas such as locations frequented by women and children.

Institutional heads are responsible for ensuring the functionality of the CCTV systems, with recorded footage or cloud storage to be preserved for at least 15 days. In case of a request from local police or police station in-charges, establishments must provide access to the footage or live feed promptly. The deadline for implementing these measures is October 14, giving establishments 60 days to comply.
