Jamshedpur: Malaria infections are surging rapidly across both rural and urban areas of the East Singhbhum district. So far, 1,059 people have tested positive for malaria, and 4 casualties have been reported.
Taking note of the grim situation, on the strict directives of the Deputy Commissioner and Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, an intensive testing and surveillance drive has been launched across 54 highly sensitive villages.
5,251 Screened: 219 New Cases Detected
Under the special health drive, medical teams have screened 5,251 individuals, leading to the detection of 219 new malaria cases. The Health Department has gone into high alert.
A block-wise breakdown of recent screenings reveals a worrying trend:
- Musabani: 443 tests conducted 77 positive cases
- Dumaria: 673 tests conducted 62 positive cases
- Potka: 1,801 tests conducted 56 positive cases
125 Doctors & 200 Healthcare Workers Deployed on Ground
To combat the outbreak on a war footing, a medical team consisting of 125 doctors and nearly 200 healthcare workers has been deployed in the affected areas.
- Hospitalizations: 73 patients are admitted to various hospitals. While 31 patients have recovered and been discharged, several others—including 56 children—are undergoing treatment.
- On-Ground Operations: Medical teams are conducting door-to-door screenings, distributing essential medicines, and raising awareness. Fogging and anti-larval chemical spraying have also been intensified in the vulnerable pockets.
“Rainwater stagnation after the recent downpours, clogged drains, and a lack of awareness regarding the use of mosquito nets are the primary reasons behind this rapid spike in cases.”

Hospitals Facing High Footfall; Administration Issues Alert
With the sudden influx of patients with high-grade fever, local hospitals and community health centres are experiencing immense pressure.
To break the chain of transmission, the district administration has set up dedicated surveillance teams. Authorities have appealed to citizens to ensure there is no stagnant water in or around their households and to visit the nearest health center immediately if they develop any fever symptoms. The health department has assured that an ample stock of anti-malaria drugs is available across all government facilities.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal Warns of Strict Action against Negligence
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal held an emergency review meeting with all health center in-charges on Saturday. He directed officials to execute the malaria control program on a war footing.
- Immediate Testing: Medical staff have been ordered to conduct immediate blood tests for anyone presenting with fever symptoms without any delay.
- Daily Reporting: All block medical officers-in-charge have been instructed to submit daily progress reports of the screening drives.
- Zero Tolerance: Dr. Pal explicitly warned that any negligence or laxity in the anti-malaria drive would invite strict disciplinary action.
Aside from medical intervention, the department is also utilizing street plays and public announcements to educate rural communities on prevention methods.
