Jamshedpur Private Schools to withhold promotion for students failing re-tests

Jamshedpur, May 3: The Jamshedpur Unaided Private School Association has announced stringent measures regarding academic promotion and teacher conduct in city schools. Teachers are now prohibited from offering private tuition to students enrolled in their respective schools, and any violation of this rule may result in termination. This decision aims to maintain academic integrity and prevent conflicts of interest.

Furthermore, the Association has declared that students failing re-tests in classes 9th and 11th will not be promoted under any circumstances. This policy was confirmed during a press conference at KPS Burma Mines. Secretary of the Association, Shrikant Nair, emphasized that despite granting students a second opportunity through re-tests, there was no significant improvement in their performance. He also dismissed allegations of deliberate targeting by schools, citing transparent assessment processes and opportunities for examination paper review.

The Association highlighted the impact of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which mandates promotion until class eight, leading to a lack of academic rigor among students. Moreover, the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated student negligence. To address these challenges, weekly class tests will now be conducted in all schools, and parents will receive regular updates on their child’s progress. Additionally, parents of struggling students will be invited for counseling sessions to ensure accountability and support for academic improvement.
