Jamshedpur, July 15: The vice president (PRW) of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Mukesh Mittal has written to the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum demanding inclusion of reputed and genuine persons as the representative of traders of Sakchi and Kadma Sairat markets.

In a letter sent to the DC Vijaya Jadhav, Mittal said, “The DC has formed a committee for the determination of rent for the Sairat market shops. Two representatives from each of the 10 Sairat Markets have been included in the 22 member committee. Four of them are senior administrative officials while the remaining 18 represent the Sairat Market traders. It is not clear as to how were these representatives selected and on what basis. Many trade and commerce organizations have come up after the Sairat rent issue was raised. Many of these organizations and their representatives neither enjoy the trust of traders nor are they registered with the district administration.”

Earlier, the city traders had filed an appeal in the DC’s court seeking a stay on the implementation of government’s decision to enhance Sairat shop rents.

The four administrative members of the committee include ADM law and order Nand Kishore Lal, ADC Saurabh Kumar Sinha, JNAC Special Officer Krishna Kumar and Executive Officer of Jugsalai Nagar Parishad JP Yadav, sources said.

Sources said the DC had asked all committee members to make their views known regarding determination of rent for Sairat shops before 19th July.

The DC had recently stayed the implementation of state government’s order for collecting shop rents at rates 500 to 700 per cent higher than the previous rents. She had assured to form a committee for the determination of Sairat shop rents.

Mittal said there are around 3644 shops in Sakchi Market, which is around 50 per cent of shops across 10 Sairat Markets of Jamshedpur. He requested the DC to ensure adequate representation of city traders in the rent determination committee in order to ensure acceptability of the committee report.
